With the news that Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader will no longer enter items into the statewide crime database for local police departments, Trion Police Chief David Gilliland told the Trion Town Council at last night’s meeting that he will need updated computers.

Sheriff Schrader says that after a recent audit by the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC), it was recommended by state officials that his office stop entering stolen items and other information for local police departments.  The sheriff says that Chattooga County is the only sheriff’s department that he knows of in the state that performs the service for other law enforcement agencies.

Summerville Police Chief Harold Tucker says that his department is also figuring out what they need to do to be able to input their own information into the database.

Sheriff Schrader says that with the improvements in technology the database is easier to access and input data than in the past.
