The Town of Lyerly could be expanding if Governor Brian Kemp signs legislation that passed recently.  A bill in the General Assembly that was introduced by State Senator Jeff Mullis (R-Chickamauga) would extend the current town limits to just past Smith Iron Works on Highway 114.

The expansion would take in Try-Con Tufters, Inc.  and Smith Iron Works – two major employers in the area.

The issue of expansion came up after Try-Con owner Milford Morgan expressed interest in his business being inside the town limits so that the company can partner with the town on economic development.   Morgan believes that being a partner with the Town of Lyerly will be more beneficial than being located in the county.

The expansion would be a financial benefit for the Town of Lyerly as well with more tax revenue coming in.
