When the Menlo Town Council met earlier this week council members decided not to persue beer and wine for the town.  Mayor Theresa Canada said that due to the fact that more people were against the idea than for it, she could not support it and the majority of council members present agreed.

Scott Quinn, pastor of First Baptist Church in Menlo, presented a letter to the town council urging them not to adopt a beer and wine ordinance for the town of Menlo.  The owner of the only gas station in town, The Handi Mart, was pushing for the town to adopt a beer and wine ordinance so that he could sell beer at his store.

Right now beer is available at Cox’s Store located about a mile and a half from downtown Menlo and on the mountain at two separate stores near the Alabama state line.
