The legislative session is over under the Gold Dome in Atlanta and in an election year and some bills that were championed had all the hallmarks of rallying the conservative base in Georgia.

One of those bills, championed by State Senator Jeff Millis (R-Chickamauga) who represents Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia would have banned the government in Georgia from buying from Chinese government-owned companies.  But when Senator Mullis’ bill went to the House, an amendment broadening the prohibitions raised question about whether Georgia governmental agencies could purchase goods from any Chinese company – including Haier which owns one of the largest employers in Northwest Georgia – Roper Corporation.

Roper employs over 2,600 workers in the area and draws employees from Walker, Dade, Catoosa and Chattooga Counties.

The bill did not make it out of the General Assembly.
