At Monday’s City of Summerville Council meeting, council members voted to decided to move utilities on a Highway 48 bridge with city personnel.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced that they will be replacing the bridge over Raccoon Creek later this year.  The bridge, which is over seventy-years-old, does not meet current DOT design standards.

The council voted to move city utilities that span the creek themselves.  City Councilman Joe Money tells WZQZ News that the decision will save the city around $130,000 by utilizing city workers to do the work.

Also, the city says that the water line connecting the new well site on Highway 48 between Summerville and Menlo is almost complete.  The wells will be pumping water to the city’s filtration plant on Raccoon Creek, located on Filter Plant Road.
