Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton says that she is looking for ways to extend her office’s availability to the public, without it costing taxpayers.

The tax commissioner is looking for the public’s feedback on the following options:
Option 1 “same as always”: Monday through Friday, 8:30-5:00 (current hours);
Option 2 “little bit earlier”: Monday through Friday, 8:00-4:30 (similar to other state/local offices in the state);
Option 3 “now and later”: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 7:30-5:30 (closed Wednesdays, open 1.5 hours longer on other days)
Hampton said that she has been working on the idea for several years.  Hampton said, ” I can’t extend what we have now without hiring an additional employee, and that would be an expense to taxpayers.”
The tax commissioner said that if the office were to be closed on Wednesdays and your birthday – the day your tags are due – you would have the extra day on Thursday to renew your tags.
Hampton says that she plans to do a question and answer session soon to discuss options and get feedback from the public.
