Last week a Taylor Street, Summerville woman alerted police about a stolen motorcycle.  The motorcycle was later recovered after a police chase.

Last Friday, Courtney Pruett told Summerville Police that someone had stolen a Husqvarna motorcycle from her residence.  Pruett was able to give law enforcement a vehicle identification number and a tag number for the stolen motorcycle.  Summerville Police issued a “be on the lookout” for the stolen motorcycle.

The Lookout Mountain Drug Task Force, the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department and Georgia State Troopers were made aware of the theft and received information that Dexter Cody Crabtree was in possession of the stolen motorcycle.

A Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted Carbtree on Highway 48 between Cloudland and Menlo on the stolen motorcycle and attempted to make a traffic stop.  Crabtree fled from the deputy and turned onto Shinbone Valley Road in Menlo.  After a few minutes, Crabtree came to a stop and as law enforcement approached him, he reportedly blurted out “I didn’t steal the truck but I did steal this” – speaking of the motorcycle.

Crabtree was arrested and taken to the Chattooga County Jail and in addition to the theft charges, is now facing charges of attempting to elude law enforcement.
