The Summerville City Council will hold their regular monthly meeting on Monday evening and the council will be discussing a new entertainment district for downtown Summerville.

The idea is to develop a plan for an area downtown where outdoor events and concerts could be held and designate it as an entertainment district where event goers would be free to purchase and drink alcohol.  Summerville wants an ordinance similar to the one that Rome adopted dealing with the same issue.

Megan Otwell from the City of Rome will be at Monday’s meeting to make a presentation on Rome’s entertainment zone and answer questions from Summerville council members.

Summerville council members are expected to set a date for a public hearing regarding the entertainment district at Monday’s meeting.

Monday’s meeting gets underway at 5 PM at Summerville City Hall and the public is invited to attend.
