Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin alerts consumers to the recall of cheeses that may be contaminated with E. coli.
Sally Jackson Cheese, Oroville, Wash., is recalling all cheese products (cow, goat, and sheep) because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.
E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and in the most severe cases, kidney failure. The very young, seniors and persons with weak immune systems are the most susceptible to foodborne illness. Those concerned about an illness should contact a physician.|
Distributed nationally to retail stores, restaurants and distributors, the Sally Jackson brand cheeses being recalled are made from raw cow, goat, and sheep milk.
The recalled products are all soft raw milk cheeses in various sizes. The cheeses are sold without product labels or production codes. Some of the products are wrapped in chestnut leaves. The goat cheese is wrapped in grape leaves. All of the cheeses are secured with twine. The cheeses may also have an outer wrapping of waxed paper.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled cheeses are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may call the Sally Jackson Cheese at (509) 429-3057.
