Two inmates at Hays State Prison have been charged in connection with an incident at the prison in January in which a prison corrections officer was handcuffed, stabbed and beaten.

The incident happened on January 24, 2022.   A corrections officer was accosted in a confined area of the prison and handcuffed and then assaulted.  Two prisoners have been formally charged in connection with the crime.  Thirty-one-year-old David Omar Tyler of Atlanta and thirty-one-year-old Roman Higdon of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania were charged in Chattooga County for the incident that happened at the prison in Trion.

The Summerville News reported on Thursday that the two prisoners handcuffed the prison correction officer to a bed when the assault took place.

Tyler is currently serving a sentence for incest, and Higdon is serving a sentence for armed robbery.
