Over the past weekend, Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisting Summerville Police at a traffic stop at the Circle K on Commerce Street, when drugs were found inside a vehicle. The woman driving told the officers that the drugs were not hers and that they belonged to a man she was staying with at the Express Inn.
Deputies went to the motel and spoke with Dequoya Smith who at first denied that the drugs were his. After first refusing permission for the deputies to search the motel room, Smith showed deputies where a gun and suspected drugs were being kept under a mattress. Smith told the deputies, “All of it is right here man.” Officers found a 9mm pistol along with suspected methamphetamine.
A juvenile was in the motel room at the time and family members came to retrieve the child.
Smith was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a gun or knife during the commission of a crime and possession of drug related objects and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
