Dr. Gary Voccio, the director of the Northwest Georgia Department of Public Health says that he is “kind of concerned” about an uptick in COVID-19 cases in recent days.

Voccio made the comments in his latest video briefing released late last week.

There were 119 new cases reported overall in Floyd, Bartow, Gordon, Polk and Chattooga counties through the week ending Wednesday. Also, there were seven hospitalized COVID patients in Atrium Health Floyd and AdventHealth Redmond on Thursday, up two from the previous day.

Also still with us: the flu. Georgia has seen 25 deaths this season, none locally, and there still are some cases in our region, Voccio says. A flu shot is still available.
