The Trion City Schools Board of Education would like to congratulate Dr. Phil Williams on his retirement announcement to be effective at the end of June, 2022

Trion City Schools has prospered and been awarded many accolades during Dr. WIlliams’ tenure as the school system superintendent. His vision, expectations, common sense decision making, and competitive nature for our school system goes unmatched. You can see Dr. Williams’ vision for Trion City Schools if you ride around our campus, look at our central office and Sam R. McCain stadium/Clarence Blevins field, and also see what is taking place at the property we purchased across from the football field. The academic and extracurricular accomplishments during his time as principal and superintendent at Trion are unsurpassed.

When Dr. Williams took over as the school superintendent in 2009, he had to make approximately $2,000,000 worth of financial cuts in order to build a budget that we could afford. We now have approximately $4,000,000 more in our fund balance since he became the superintendent. This Trion Board of Education is in unison, and we are focused on making every decision that is in the best interest of the students and staff because of Dr. Williams’ leadership. Dr. Williams is a proven winner and a great superintendent.

The Trion Board of Education members will consider all options in order to fill the superintendent vacancy. We are committed to the students, staff, parents, and the Trion community, and we will make the right decision for leadership for our school system. As we explore all options for the superintendent position, we would like to name Dr. Howard Hughes as the interim superintendent beginning July 01, 2022 in order to carry out the daily school system functions.
