The story about mercury contamination at LaFayette High School made it’s rounds on the newswires yesterday with the AP and the Georgia News Network doing reports on the cost of the clean up which is in excess of $50,000. WQCH in LaFayette had reported the cost several weeks ago.
The mercury was discovered in three classrooms at LaFayette High School in November and was taken home by at least one student. One student became ill due to the mercury contamination. There are conflicting reports about just who notified the school about the contamination.
Clean up at the school wound up costing $54,308. Reports have indicated that at least some of the students involved in the incident got a 10 week suspension – there have been no other reports of any criminal charges.
