Last week the Chattooga County Public Works building on Stockade Road in Summerville was targeted by burglars. When employees arrived for work on the Tuesday before Christmas they found that the door on the north side of the building had been broken into and alerted police.
The thieves made off with multiple chainsaws and a laptop computer belonging to Public Works Director Lamar Canada. Canada told AM 1180 that it is not clear why thieves only targeted the computer and the chainsaws – passing up other items of value. Canada said that perhaps that is what the thieves thought would be the easiest items to get rid of fast for cash.
Canada said that there are no suspects at this time.
