The Coosa River Basin Initiative has joined the City of Summerville and former Summerville City Councilman Earl Parris in a lawsuit against the Town of Trion concerning chemicals found in the Chattooga River. 

The Coosa River Basin Initiative (CRBI) is a non-profit organization whose stated purpose is to “protect, preserve, and restore one of North America’s most biologically diverse river systems – the upper Coosa River basin.”  The organization, founded in 1993, advocates for water quality in the Upper Coosa River Basin in Georgia and Alabama.   The lawsuit alleges that the Town of Trion was in violation of the Clean Water Act and allowed PFAS into the Chattooga River.  The lawsuit says that the Town of Trion did not have proper methods in place to remove PFAS contamination in treated water.

The local paper said on Thursday of last week that the Town of Trion, nor their attorney, has responded to the lawsuit.
