A report from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation says that a fifty-five-year-old Summerville man who passed away at the Floyd County Jail in January of this year passed away from natural causes.
David Lee Daniel was found unresponsive in his cell at the Floyd County Jail on January 7th. Floyd County Jail staff initiated lifesaving efforts and he was transported to a local hospital. Ultimately, jail staff and hospital personnel were unsuccessful in their lifesaving efforts and Daniel was pronounced dead.
Daniel had been arrested by the Summerville Police Department on December 28, 2021 for theft by taking and misdemeanor simple battery on a law enforcement officer.
As standard procedure, the GBI had been contacted to conduct an investigation. The autopsy report released yesterday says that Daniel died of natural causes.
