
A Chattooga County deputy noticed a 2001 Saturn traveling on Highway 27 in Trion that was failing to maintain a single lane. He also noticed that the windshield on the car was broken out. The deputy performed a traffic stop and called for backup from the Trion Police Department.
The deputy noticed a black bag with beer in the car and a beer sitting behind the the front seat. The deputy said that he could smell marijuana inside the vehicle and asked a Trion officer to conduct a search. The Trion officer located a black container and inside the container there were three plastic baggies with a large amount of crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. The officer also found three glass pipes inside the vehicle.
Both men in the vehicle said that they knew nothing about the meth or the pipes. Deputies continued to search the vehicle and found more suspected methamphetamine, along with pills and suspected marijuana.
Thirty-eight-year-old James Martin Willey and Melvin Eugene Fawlks, both from LaFayette, were arrested and booked into the Chattooga County jail on drug possession charges.
