A Probate Judge in Northwest Georgia has resigned after reaching an agreement with the Judicial Qualifications Committee regarding allegations leveled against him.
Judge Tony Brazier signed the agreement with the Judicial Qualifications Commission in exchange for the state agency dropping an investigation into the operations of his office. While part of the agreement stipulates that Brazier cannot seek public office in Georgia in the future, many of the details about the allegations that were leveled against him will remain sealed.
What is known is that Brazier was accused of improperly issuing marriage licenses and improperly utilized notary services in his office. Also, he is accused of allowing unqualified workers to handle money and failed to perform his duties as probate judge.
For his part, Brazier issued a statement saying, “Unfortunately, the deteriorating condition of my back simply will not allow me to continue to fulfill my role as Probate Court Judge for Polk County”.
Braizer was elected Polk County Probate Judge in 2020.
