Chattooga County has seen a spike in COVID 19 cases since the first of the month.  According to the latest data, out of 159 counties in the state, Chattooga County ranks #47  in the state in the percentage of  COVID-19 cases per capita.

The latest numbers from the Georgia Department of Public Health show 47 new cases over the previous week – that’s up 27%.  Compared to the rest of the state, the number of new COVID-19 cases in the last reporting period are 8.7% higher than the average for Georgia.  There have been a total of 6,840 COVID-19 cases reported in Chattooga County since the beginning of the pandemic.  There have been 136 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the county.   As of the latest reporting period, 38.5% of the county’s population is fully vaccinate.

Chattooga County was the only county in Northwest Georgia to make the top 50 list that was compiled by the analytical media group, Stacker.

Quitman County in Southwest Georgia ranked number one with the highest percentage of new COVID-19 cases over the past reporting period.

The report was based on the highest infection rate per 100,000 residents within the last reporting period.
