A thirty-seven-year-old Cartersville man was arrested in Chattooga County last weekend after he was accused of attacking his mother’s vehicle with an ax following a birthday party on Dry Creek Road.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office, Ian Galex Hays had been drinking heavily at the party on his uncle’s property. His mother, who was attending the party as well, hid Hays’ keys so that he would not drive while intoxicated. Hays became angry with his mother and attacked her car with a chopping ax. The report from the sheriff’s office indicated that Hays struck his mother’s vehicle over twenty-four times with the ax, causing extensive damage.
When deputies arrived on the scene Hays became combative and had to be tased three times before he was finally subdued and taken to jail.
Hays was charged with several counts of obstruction of law enforcement and criminal damage to property.
