No date has been set for the beginning of construction on a bridge on Highway 48 that spans Raccoon Creek between Summerville and Menlo.  The bridge is going to cost almost $5 million, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.  The winning bid for the bridge was submitted by C.W. Matthews Contracting Company at $4,969,065.  The bridge will be replaced and according to the DOT, will also “include upgrades to the approaches of the bridge”.  According to the bid proposal from the state, the bridge must be completed by April 30, 2024.  The DOT says that an on-site detour will be set up during the construction, which is expected to last for 18 months.
