Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry will be holding a millage rate meeting this evening at the Chattooga County Civic Center in Summerville.  The commissioner says that he will be setting the millage rate at 16.0706 mills and that is the lowest millage rate the county government has set in five years.

The millage rate when Elsberry took office was 19.617 mills and last year, the millage rate was set at 18.356.

Meanwhile, property values have continued to rise in Chattooga County and the county is under an order from the state government to get property values in line with actual sales values.  The county has been paying fines for several years because property values were not assessed properly.  According to the Georgia Department of Revenue’s website (HERE), Chattooga County has been cited for most of the past ten years and has been ordered to pay over $212,000 in fines because of the assessments:

This evening’s millage rate meeting will be held at 5 PM and the public is invited to attend.  The Chattooga County Civic Center is located on Highway 48 in Summerville across from Truist Bank.
