In the latest COVID-19 report that was released on Wednesday of this week by the Georgia Department of Public Health, there was an increase in the number of cases being reported in Chattooga County.

Part of the reason for the large increase in cases was a lab in Texas released results for some COVID-19 cases that were backlogged, causing the number to spike greatly.   The previous reporting period showed Chattooga County with 34 cases – this week’s report showed 57 positive cases in the county.

There was also another COVID-19 death reported for Chattooga County for the latest reporting period.

Statewide, 133 people died in the past week, the most since Georgia shifted to weekly reporting. Some 17,454 new cases were reported statewide, down from 18,357 the previous week.
