A group of concerned citizens are calling for a public meeting with Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry and the Chattooga Planning Committee.
Elsberry held a public meeting earlier in August and faced some tough questions about the land use ordinance that he enacted in March of this year. Some members of the public were not satisfied with the answers that were given at that meeting and are asking for more meetings to clarify the commissioner’s position and to voice concerns about the 83-page document that makes up the land use ordinance.
At the meeting held earlier, the committee members admitted that they had not read the document in its entirety. Also at that meeting, the committee mentioned in their comments to the public that they had discussions about the ordinance, but there was no prior meeting of the committee that was advertised for the public to attend. Georgia open-meetings laws generally requires any committee meeting of local governments to be advertised and held where the public and media can attend.
The group of concerned citizens delivered a letter to Commissioner Elsberry on Monday and released a letter to the public about the meeting. You can read both letters below.
The meeting is scheduled for September 13th at 7 PM at the Chattooga County Civic Center in Summerville.
