The Lyerly Town Council approved the liquor ordinance on Tuesday evening at the regular town council meeting held at the Lyerly Town Hall.  Councilmembers approved the ordinance that includes several stipulations including:

* There will be a $5,000 annual fee for a license, plus a $250 non-refundable fee to cover the cost of investigation of the person seeking the license.

* License requests will be heard by the mayor and town council of Lyerly.

* Liquor cannot be sold within 100 yards of the property line of any church.

* Liquor cannot be sold within 200 yards of a school.

* Liquor cannot be consumed on the premises.

* Liquor cannot be sold in any predominantly residential neighborhood except adjacent to a state highway.

Lyerly Town Clerk Joy Hampton told AM 1180 on Wednesday that the town is working on an application entered by Tony Patel of Lyerly for a liquor license.  Hampton said that Patel’s application could be headed for state approval sometime in February.
