Over one hundred people received a text from the Chattooga County Tax Commissioner’s Office on Tuesday and some people weren’t sure why. 

WZQZ News spoke with Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton who said that people who received the texts had signed up online at the tax commissioner’s website for “E-alerts”.  Hampton said the only people who received the text message (like the one pictured above) are the ones who had requested to be alerted electronically when a new tax bill was generated.

Hampton added that 146 taxpayers had signed up for the service.  Anyone interested in signing up for e-alerts can go to the tax commissioner’s website located HERE .  Then, go to the “Taxpayer View & Search Tab” and accept the disclaimer.  Type in your name and pull up your tax bill using the magnifying glass “view” icon.  Then look for the “E-alerts” tab at the top of the page.

You will then be asked for your first and last name, telephone number and email address.
