The Georgia Department of Corrections has confirmed that an inmate died at Hays State Prison on Monday of this week after a stabbing incident.

The Summerville News reported on Thursday that Chattooga County Coroner Earl Rainwater confirmed the death but the name of the victim has not been released.  The newspaper reported that the inmate who died was a twenty-six-year-old from the metro-Atlanta area.

The Georgia Department of Corrections has not confirmed the identity of the inmate, but says an investigation is underway and no further comments will be released until the investigation is complete.

The stabbing reportedly happened around 1 AM.
