After the flooding in Summerville over Labor Day weekend, Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton is doing her best to make sure taxpayers are able to still do business, despite the fact that her office remains closed.

Tax Commissioner Hampton said, “We are closed to the public for the next few days. We aren’t able to process tags, titles or tax payments as we don’t have enough supplies or working computers, and we are focusing on moving out and back in again as quickly as possible. Many things can be done online at chattoogatax.com, but if you’ve waited until insurance has lapsed or after your due date, that may not be possible. In those cases, check back with us next week.”

Hampton went on to say, “It’s very important to not wait until your tag is due or after to renew in the event of natural disasters or other unforeseen circumstances. Reminders are sent out 60 days in advance to give ample time and unfortunately we can’t always help you once it’s too late. We can slowly process mail, so it is best to mail those renewals back or leave in the drop box as soon as you get them to allow time and avoid any problems.”
