The City of Summerville says that they will know more today after a contractor visits the water treatment plant today, but there is a possibility that water could be restored to Summerville water customers by the end of the week.

City Manager Janice Galloway made the comments in a phone interview with the Chattanooga Times-Free Press on Tuesday evening.  The city manager said that a contractor will be visiting the site on Raccoon Creek Road that was left damaged by flooding on Sunday to assess damage.

City officials say that there were about 30 people working at the filter plant all day Tuesday.  The plant was submerged under floodwater, causing damage to the treatment facility.  The floodwater from Raccoon Creek flooded the clear water tanks at the filter plant and those tanks have to be pumped out and sanitized.  City workers were able to get electric pumps turned off before they were submerged and those pumps were still being dried out as of Tuesday afternoon.

An inspection today will determine if the pumps have been damaged.
