The Trion Recreation Department has opened its doors for any Chattooga County resident who is without water to have a place to take a shower. Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas told WZQZ News this week that the town is doing all they can to assist the City of Summerville water customers that are without water.

Mayor Thomas said that immediately after the boil water notice was issued by the City of Summerville, Hays State Prison was able to switch from Summerville City Water to water provided by the Town of Trion.  The mayor also said that the town is supplying some water to the City of Summerville.  The mayor said that while the Town of Trion is keeping up with the amount of water that is being sent to Summerville, the City of Summerville is not being billed for the water.  The mayor said he expects the Town of Trion will be reimbursed from state emergency funds.

In addition to the showers at the Trion Recreation Department, the Town of Trion is supplying water for the shower unit from Trion Heights Baptist Church.  The church had the shower unit onsite until the Trion Heights ran out of water on Tuesday of this week.  The shower unit – which is owned by the Chattooga Baptist Association – was taken to the Trion Park pavilion and the Town of Trion is providing the water for the unit.  Those shower stalls are open each morning and each evening.

The shower stalls at the Trion Recreation Department will be open today from 8 AM – 9 PM.  Residents need to bring their own towels and hygiene supplies.
