Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry held a public meeting  in August and faced some tough questions about the land use ordinance that he enacted in March of this year.  Some members of the public were not satisfied with the answers that were given at that meeting and had asked the commissioner for  a public meeting to clarify the commissioner’s position and to voice concerns about the 83-page document that makes up the land use ordinance.  But Commissioner Elsberry says that he had prior commitments and will not be attending tonight’s meeting.

WZQZ News spoke with the organizers of the meeting who said that they are going to go ahead and hold the meeting and are asking members of the public to come to the Chattooga County Civic Center at 7 PM to hear more about the land use ordinance and how it affects property owners in the county.

The meeting will be moderated by WZQZ’s Ben Groce and will be live-streamed on the WZQZ Facebook Page.

In turning down the offer to answer the public’s questions, the commissioner cited the governor being in town.  According to Governor Kemp’s campaign schedule, the governor will be appearing at a $5,000 per couple fundraising event in Dade County this evening.

The commissioner said that members of the public are welcome to come to the next Chattooga County Planning Committee meeting that will be held in October if they have questions.
