A Go Fund Me account has been set up for a Chattooga County family that lost everything in the Labor Day Weekend flood that dropped over 14 inches of rain in some parts of the county.

While a lot of attention was focused on areas in Summerville, there was flooding in the Silver Hill Community as well.  That flooding, totally decimated a house belonging to the McGuire family.

The home on Jenkins Gap Road was surrounded by water and had standing water inside the home for multiple days.  It was days before Levi McGuire and his family were able to get back to their residence due to standing water.  Water sat in the home’s heating and air ducts for days and the floor was so damaged that is dangerous to walk on.  Also, furniture and children’s belongings were damaged.

The family was able to get inside the house recently and everything is covered in mold and the furniture is starting to crumble as much of it sat in water for days.

This family says GEMA officials told them to sit tight. There’s hope that President Biden will sign for federal relief to come, but there is no guarantee.
