Chattooga High sophomore  Garrett Hurley recently showcased his electrical skills in a competition held by the North Georgia Electric Membership Corporation. The competition involved high school students in NGEMC’s seven county service area. The students  gathered to participate in the North Region Area I FFA/EMC Electrification Contest at Amicalola EMC, in Jasper. The  competition consisted of three parts which included: wiring a three way switch, problem solving, and a speaking component. The problem solving event  involved students answering a series of questions related to electrical wiring. The speaking section of the competition required students to describe a diagram of the three way switch to a panel of judges. Garrett trained for the competition at an event held for area high school students at CHS.  He stated, “the event provided me an opportunity to take the skills I have learned in the classroom and apply them to a real life situation.” The wiring competition is an annual event hosted by the EMC. The activity is designed to reinforce electrical wiring skills taught in the vocational agriculture education program. This event is simply one more way to highlight students who take part in CHS vocational programs.
