The clothing retail store, The Crate, is closing all of it’s stores across the South as of Saturday. The Crate store in Summerville closed earlier last year. After the closing of the store in Chattooga County the closest reatial outlet operated by the clothing chain was in Rome.
According to the company web site, THE CRATE was founded in 1979 and the first store was opened in Trion, Georgia and eventually moved to Summerville, Georgia. The company was originally known as THE ORANGE CRATE and several years later, dropped the "Orange" and is now known as THE CRATE.
At one time the company operated stores across Georgia and Alabama.
