The Walker County Commission has a $6.2-million High Speed Internet Service plan on the agenda.  The Commission will be meeting tonight at 7 PM.

WQCH in LaFayette reports that the money is from Federal Fiscal Relief grants, that will be used to install a fiberoptic system to serve rural areas of the county. Officials said the work will provide access to at least one gigabyte service to over 3,300 households.

After the project is built out, Windstream will offer its Internet services to those residents through the fiber buildout. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. The county will have no ownership interest in the fiberoptic system.

There will be a Town Hall meeting with Kinetic by Windstream on Rural Broadband on Monday, October 10th at 6:00 p.m. at the LaFayette-Walker Library. The public is encouraged to attend.
