The Chattooga Planning Committee held a called meeting on Thursday evening at the Chattooga County Civic Center.  The purpose of the meeting, according to Chairman Eddy Willingham, was to allow the public an opportunity to “have input” on the ordinance.  Willingham said that the committee is looking to hold additional public input meetings about the 83-page ordinance that was hastily adopted by Commissioner Blake Elsberry earlier this year.

The Chattooga Citizens group is planning a meeting next Tuesday evening.  At the group’s last meeting, they outlined several problems with the ordinance – including concerns about dividing property among heirs and how the ordinance would affect agriculture.

Commissioner Elsberry says that some of the group’s concerns are being dealt with, but there were no public meetings held about any changes to the ordinance.  Commissioner Elsberry says that those changes have been submitted to the county attorney to amend the ordinance.

The local paper reported that Mr. Willingham said that the ordinance does “need to be easier to read”.
