The Chattooga Baptist Association kicked off fundraising efforts for a scholarship that was established in memory of two well-known Chattooga County Baptist pastors at the Trion-Chattooga game on Friday night.

The Jimmy Bryant and Steve Pickern Scholarships were established to benefit local high school students from both Chattooga and Trion Schools.  Jimmy Bryant served South Summerville Baptist Church and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for many years.  Steve Pickern served SonRise Community Church for several years as well.

Barry Peppers, director of the local Baptist Association, told WZQZ News that $219 was raised at Friday night’s game.  Peppers said that money was donated by Chattooga and Trion fans at the game and for every $50, the corresponding team earned a field goal.  When a fan donations reached $100, the corresponding team won a touchdown.  While Trion may have defeated Chattooga on the football field Friday evening, Chattooga fans posted a win for their team in the scholarship fundraiser.  The final score for the fundraiser was Chattooga 10 – Trion 3.  A trophy will be presented at Chattooga High School in the upcoming days.  Trion fans will have the chance to have the trophy at their school with upcoming fundraisers.

Peppers said that people are still catching on to the fundraising effort and a lot of people who were not at the game in person are asking how they can donate.  WZQZ’s live stream of Friday’s game had almost 9,000 views.  Peppers said that those who weren’t at the game can donate by sending a check to:
