After several months of very little change in the unemployment numbers, Chattooga County has seen a marked increase over the past month in the county’s unemployment rate.  In fact Chattooga County’s unemployment rate for December of 2010 is higher than it was in December of 2009.

The preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate stand now at 14.3% for Chattooga County up from 12% in November of 2010.  The number is up over 3 percentage points over the unemployment number from 2009 when the county saw an 11.2% unemployment rate.

Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 10.2 percent in December, up two-tenths of a percentage point from a revised 10 percent in November. The rate was 10.3 percent in December 2009.

The numbers were released on Thursday by the Georgia Department of Labor.
