The Rome News Tribune reported on Friday that a judge has ruled that claims by victims of sexual abuse at Darlington School in Rome can move forward.

Judge Adele Grubbs ruled that the lawsuit against several of Darlington School’s insurers rejected claims by the insurance companies that the former students did not have a right to seek damages.

A former English teacher and dorm parent, Roger Stifflemire, is alleged to have abused the victims in the 1970’s and 1980’s.  Sifflemire agreed to cooperate with the plaintiff’s attorneys in seeking damages from the school’s insurers.

The former students are seeking $345 million from Darlington School’s insurers.
