More information was released late last week about the fatal crash that killed four on October 30th in Chattooga County. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the vehicle involved in the accident vaulted over 82 feet.
State Troopers say the white 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback driven by 54-year-old Otis James Tennard Jr. crashed around 12:20 a.m. Sunday. Georgia State Troopers arrived on the scene at 12:57 a.m., the report said.
“Vehicle #1 was traveling west on Georgia state Route 114 and was entering a left-hand curve located at the intersection of Spraggins Hill Road,” the report said. “Driver #1 failed to properly negotiate the curve, and vehicle #1 left the roadway on the north side of Georgia 114.”
The Audi traveled along the grass shoulder until it hit a driveway and culvert, the report said. After slight contact with a utility pole, the Audi hit another private driveway and culvert — and “vaulted for 82 feet,” the report said.
The Audi landed and rolled at least three times for 76 feet before landing on its wheels, the report said.
Tennard was killed in the crash, as was Xavier Gray, 15; Tydraevius Dozier, 14; and Zantivian Brown, 16. Dozier and Brown were brothers. All three of the teenagers were students and played football at Chattooga High School.
Winifer Reynoso Cigarroa, 27, was injured in the crash, according to the report. Initial reports from the Georgia State Patrol on Sunday said she was taken to Atrium Floyd Medical Center in Rome in critical condition. Thursday afternoon, hospital officials confirmed she was still a patient at the hospital but would not give an update on her condition.
The report said contributing factors for the crash were that the driver lost control and was driving too fast for conditions. There were no contributing factors for the roadway or vehicle, the report said. The posted speed limit at that point in state Route 114 was 55 mph.
Tennard was partially ejected in the crash, the report said, and wearing a lap and shoulder seat belt. All four of the other passengers remained in the vehicle, and multiple air bags were deployed, the report said.
Reynoso Cigarroa was in the passenger seat and wearing a lap and shoulder seat belt.
Grey was in the middle back seat. Dozier was in the back left seat, and Brown was in the right back seat. The report said all three were wearing a lap and shoulder seat belt.
The Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
