A fifty-one-year-old Summerville man was arrested after driving erratically and running a red light. 

According to a report from the Summerville Police Department, an officer spotted a Pontiac sedan being driven by a driver without his seat belt on.  As the officer followed the vehicle, the driver was driving in a strange manner.  The officer followed the vehicle to the Advanced Auto parking lot on Commerce Street where the vehicle turned around and headed back towards downtown Summerville.  The driver then ran the red light at East Washington Street and was stopped by the officer on Cox Street at West Washington Street.

When questioned, the driver admitted to not having a driver’s license.  Police found suspected methamphetamine inside the driver’s boot.

John Dewayne Oates was charged with methamphetamine possession, driving without a valid license, failure to obey a traffic signal and no insurance and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
