The September Flood of 2009 lead to an act of valor by a Trion Fireman that was recognized this week by the Governor of Georgia Nathan Deal and the Georgia State Firefighters Association.

Firefighter Michael "Micky" Floyd received a Life-Saving Valor Award from the association and the governor on Tuesday of this week for his part in saving the life of Tylery Gordy in the flooded waters of the Chattooga River on September 21, 2009.

Northwest Georgia firefighters and Emergency Workers were featured in this years round of honors.  Along with the valor award for Mickey Floyd, Fort Oglethorpe Fireman Steven "Kelly" Correll was recognized as "Firefighter of the Year"; James "Jim" Bulman of Walker County Emergency Services received the "Rookie Firefighter of the Year" award and Traci Reece of Walker County Emergency Services received "Educator of the Year" at the event held in Atlanta at the capital.
