On Tuesday of this week Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call on Farmersville Road about an eighty-two-year-old  man shooting a television set with a .38 pistol. 

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the man in question and spoke with him about the incident.  The man told deputies that his wife was bedridden and has dementia and were staying with family members on Farmersville Road. He went on to say that he just got out of the hospital from having open heart surgery.  When he came home from the hospital, he found that over $80,000 had been stolen from a safe in the bedroom of the residence where he was staying.

He told the deputy about other issues at the house and said “everything just came to a head” when he confronted family members about the missing money and he shot the television.  Deputies found a .38 caliber pistol with five shells and one spent shell.  Deputies told the man that they were taking the gun “for evidence and safe keeping” and told the man that due to his and his wife’s health condition, they were just issuing him a citation for disorderly conduct.

Other family members came to the residence and took the man in question and his wife somewhere else to spend the night.  The incident is still under investigation.
