Veterans Day is a holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country’s service and was originally called Armistice Day. It fell on November 11th because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to “Veterans Day” in order to account for all veterans in all wars.

Today, there will be a Veterans Lunch at the Chattooga County Courthouse.  All area veterans are invited to attend the lunch that gets underway at noon.  Local veterans advocates Odell Anderson and Barbara Massey Reece are hosting the event, along with Chattooga County Probate Judge Gary Woods.

Also today, AdventHealth and Truett’s Chick-fil-A will honor area veterans by hosting a free Veterans Lunch. All veterans and Patriot Guard members are invited to enjoy a free lunch at Truett’s Chick-fil-A, located at 264 Shorter Avenue NW in Rome.

From all of us at WZQZ Radio, THANK YOU veterans for your service to our country.
