The Chattooga Land Use Committee will be meeting again on Tuesday, December 1st.  The committee has been hearing from the public at previous meetings about changes to the land use ordinance that was adopted by Commissioner Blake Elsberry earlier this year.

A citizens group organized in response to the ordinance and held meetings to educate the public on the concerns that they have about how property can be divided among family members and how the new ordinance will affect agriculture in the county.  The citizens group is gathering petitions to have the ordinance put on the ballot for voters in Chattooga County to have the opportunity to vote up or down on the ordinance.  The group says that they have gathered quite a few signatures but are still below the threshold they need to have the measure on the ballot.

Meanwhile, the Chattooga County Land Use Committee will have other business on their agenda for their December meeting.  Waffle House, Inc. has asked to be on the agenda for the meeting in December.  The restaurant chain, based in Norcross, Georgia, is looking to build a new restaurant near Taco Bell in Summerville.  Waffle House has over 1,900 restaurants in twenty-five states.

The December Land Use Committee meeting will be held at 6 PM on December 1st at the Chattooga County Civic Center in Summerville.
