Georgia Governor Brian Kemp sailed to victory in his reelection bid which saw a rematch with Democrat Stacy Abrams.  But Kemp’s support in Chattooga County drew even more votes than for fellow Republicans Marjorie Taylor Greene and Herschel Walker.

Kemp outpaced Walker by about 5 percentage points in the seven Northwest Georgia counties, with Chattooga County having the largest difference at 5.9 points.  While Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene is popular with Republican voters in Chattooga County, she didn’t draw the votes that Kemp did in the General Election.

Kemp’s response to the flooding in Summerville over the Labor Day weekend could explain part of his popularity with Chattooga County Voters.  The Governor and First Lady Kemp visited Summerville to tour the damage.  WZQZ News spoke exclusively with Governor Kemp just days after the flooding.  In that interview, the governor didn’t mention his reelection campaign and was focused on ways that the state could respond to the disaster.

Kemp likely attracted votes from some Chattooga County residents who voted for some Democrats in the General Election.  While former President Trump’s popularity is undisputed in Chattooga County, Kemp and Secretary of State Raffensperger both fell out of favor with the former President during the 2020 election that saw Georgia go to President Joe Biden.  Also, Kemp stayed relatively quiet about fellow Republicans Greene and Walker during the General Election, who are both endorsed by former President Trump.
