Quick action by some Northwest Georgia police officers prevented a Thanksgiving tragedy.  According to a media release from the Polk County Police Department, shortly after midnight on Thanksgiving day, officers responded to a call in Cedartown in reference to a suicide attempt.

The officers learned that a subject was attempting to hang himself from a tree.  When officers arrived on the scene, they witnessed the male subject jump but one of the officers held the male subject up while the other cut the rope down.

Polk County Police said in a media release, “Due to the actions of Officer Lonergan & Officer Holliday, the life of a man was saved. We commend these Officers, and their selfless actions. They exemplify the value of service that our Department embodies, and we would like to recognize them. We are thankful to have Officers like Officer Lonergan & Officer Holliday in our agency. It is also to note, that this was Officer Holliday’s first night solo in a car after completing his Field Training.”
