The Chattooga County Water District met in its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday evening at the Water District Office. At the meeting board members re-elected Board Chairman Sammy Lee by a unanimous vote. Also the board re-elected as vice-chairman Larry Wesson and elected Brad Hayes as Secretary and Jimmy Holbrook as treasurer.
Also, Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters appointed himself to the Water District Board at last night’s meeting. Under the water district’s by-laws the County Commissioner can either serve as chairman of the board or appoint himself to the water district board.
Commissioner Winters said that he wanted to fill the other position on the board which has been left open for the past two years since the by-laws were adopted. Winters said that he would serve on the board for one year until the second phase of the water project is completed. At that time the commissioner will appoint someone from the Holland-Chattoogaville area to replace him on the board.
The by-laws adopted in 2009 stated that any future water board members must be a customer of the water district. Commissioner Winters said that by the end of his one-year term on the water district board he would submit names to the water district for a new board member from the Holland-Chattoogaville area.
