One of the oldest houses in Chattooga County will be decked out for Christmas and locals can come enjoy a look at Christmas-past at the Couey House at Dowdy Park during Christmas in the Park on Friday.

Built in the early 1840’s by Andrew McSelland Couey and his sons, this log house was one of the earliest pioneer homes in Chattooga County. Originally, the house was located in Dirt Town Valley near Tidings, Georgia but was moved to Summerville by the Georgia Department of Transportation. The relocation to Dowdy Park in Summerville was begun in 1995 and the house was given to the City of Summerville in 1998.

During Christmas in the Park, free tours of the Couey House will be given by the Chattooga County Historical Society. The house is furnished in period appropriate furnishing that would have been appropriate of Chattooga County families in the early 1840-1850’s. The Chattooga County Garden Club will adorn the house with all natural Christmas Decor.
